UAE: Nokia Present Groundbreaking Nokia PureView Imaging Technology

Dubai, UAE: A delegation of executives from Nokia’s Global Team for Smart Devices paid a special visit to the UAE today, once again highlighting the importance placed on the UAE and wider GCC market in Nokia’s growth strategies for the region.

During the visit, Tuula Rytilä – Senior Vice President, Portfolio and Business Management, Smart Devices, Vesa Jutila – Head of Smartphones Product Marketing Smart Devices and Ilari Nurmi – Vice President, Product Marketing, Smart Devices met with select groups of stakeholders to present the groundbreaking PureView imaging technology on the Nokia 808, the first smartphone in the world with a 41 megapixel camera, which is set to revolutionize high-end imaging in the smartphone sector.

The PureView technology, which has taken 5 years to develop, made its debut in the Nokia 808 PureView smartphone, which was named “Best New Mobile Handset” at the Mobile World Congress 2012 earlier this month. The Nokia 808 PureView uses pixel oversampling technology to bring together high resolution sensors, exclusive Carl Zeiss optics and Nokia developed algorithms, which will support new high-end imaging experiences for future Nokia products.

Tom Farrell, Vice President, Nokia Middle East said: “Following on from the visit of Nokia’s Global President and CEO, Stephen Elop earlier last month, we are delighted to now welcome the Global Team for Smart Devices here to Dubai, and especially to present the exciting Nokia 808 PureView, which is a testament to Nokia’s commitment to delivering innovative mobile phone products for consumers across the globe.”

“Nokia’s global strategy for growth focuses on a new winning smartphone strategy; through the Lumia range based on the Nokia with Windows Phone, and innovation with the Nokia 808 PureView, which is also a key part of this strategy, as it pioneers new technology in smartphone handsets and sets a new benchmark for innovations in high-end imaging,” he added.

The Nokia 808 PureView features a large, high-resolution 41 megapixel sensor with high-performance Carl Zeiss optics and new pixel oversampling technology.  At standard resolutions (2/3, 5 and 8 megapixels) this means the ability to zoom without loss of clarity and capture seven pixels of information, condensing into one pixel for the sharpest images imaginable.

At high-resolution (38 megapixel maximum) it means the ability to capture an image, then zoom, reframe, crop and resize afterwards to expose previously unseen levels of details. With superior low-light performance and the ability to save in compact file sizes for sharing in email, MMS, and on social networks, the Nokia 808 PureView makes it possible for anyone to capture professional looking images in any conditions.

In addition to superior still imaging technology, the Nokia 808 PureView, also includes full HD 1080p video recording and playback with 4X lossless zoom and the world’s first use of Nokia Rich Recording.  Rich Recording enables audio recording at CD-like levels of quality, previously only possible with external microphones.  The Nokia 808 PureView also features exclusive Dolby Headphone technology, transforming stereo content into a personal surround sound experience over any headphones and Dolby Digital Plus for 5.1 channel surround sound playback.

Nokia is committed to delivering innovative products to its customers across the region to further enhance the strong brand loyalty it enjoys in the region.
