2012 UNEP Ozone Africa Media Award is open! / Call for Entries / Register now – Eight (8) more weeks to go

Institutions and individuals in each country and region have made major contributions to the protection of the ozone layer, and implementation of the Montreal Protocol and their stories must be told. The Ozone Africa Media Award recognizes outstanding contributions by the media to the phase out of Ozone Depleting Substances and the Ozone layer protection in Africa by promoting understanding of environmental issues specifically targeting ozone related challenges, through compelling and newsworthy individual stories that would make a valuable impact.

The Ozone Africa Media Award encourages highest standards of excellence in environmental and scientific reporting, focusing on how ozone issues are addressed in Africa. The award places emphasis on compelling stories with a human face, showing how the consequences of a global environmental issue can affect Africa and how individuals can be part of the solution.

Who is eligible?

The Competition is open to Arabic, English, French and Portuguese-speaking Journalists in Africa from the Print, Radio, TV and online media.

The best examples of journalistic practice in the coverage of Ozone issues in Africa in print, audio-visual and electronic media will be selected by a jury consisting of representatives of the Montreal Protocol implementing agencies, and media experts,and awarded a cash prize.

Deadline for nominations is August 31, 2012.

The Ozone Africa Media Award was established in 2010 by the UN Environment Programme, OzonAction/Compliance Assistance Programme in Africa in collaboration with the Africa Network of Environment Journalists –ANEJ.
