ArabBrains Privacy Policy

Your privacy is of paramount importance to ArabBrains. We are committed to maintaining the confidentiality of the personal information collected by us in order to allow you to utilize ArabBrains for your benefit, to network with colleagues and friends and to submit your own ideas and inventions fully confident that you are protected.

The purpose of this privacy policy is to enable you to understand how we collect, store, use and safeguard information relating to you and for you to understand your rights in relation to that information.

ArabBrains has been built to make it easy to share information with your colleagues and friends. You have control of your information. Our default privacy settings limit the information displayed in your and you have total control on who you accept to be your friends and working partners; you have total control over who you wish to share your ideas with and total control over when you wish to submit your ideas to the ArabBrains Webmaster.

ArabBrains is based on the following key principles:

  • You have complete control over your personal information and who in the ArabBrains network of members you share it with.
  • You have final say on who you choose to have as a friend and working colleague through the “accept” mechanism.
  • You choose whether you wish to operate as an individual or as part of a group or even both but on different innovation projects.
  • You choose when to submit your ideas to ArabBrains and request for those ideas to be protected and commercialised.
  • You control a “walled garden” around each of your ideas and hence the ArabBrains site has an electronic record of the time and date of all your records and postings – protecting you against potential copying of your idea.

1. What information is collected and for what purpose

As part of joining the ArabBrains network we will ask you to provide certain personal information including your name, country, email address, date of birth and password. We will also ask you what college or university or technical or research institute you are working or studying at where applicable. We will also ask you which industrial sectors you are interest in and you also have the option of including any additional comments about your aspirations in those technological and industrial sectors.

If you no longer wish to receive our newsletters, you may opt-out of receiving them by following the instructions included in each newsletter.

Additional information will only be requested once you submit your ideas to the African Webmaster and request for commercialisation of your ideas. For more information on this please see commercialisation policy

2. Cookies

When you join the ArabBrains network we collect your browser type and IP address. This information is gathered for all ArabBrains members. In addition, we store certain information from your browser using ‘cookies’. A cookie is a text-only string of information that we place in your computer’s cookie file so that we can remember who you are when you revisit ArabBrains. By default, we use a persistent cookie that stores your login ID (but not your password) to make it easier for you to log in when you return to ArabBrains. You can remove or block this cookie using the settings in your browser if you want to disable this convenience feature.

3. Summary of your master data and safe storage of it by ArabBrains

Your master data is all the personal information you entered at the point of joining the ArabBrains network as described in section 1 above. ArabBrains stores data that you submit to the Webmaster. You can see and edit your data on your personal profile page. You may edit this data as appropriate.

4. The sharing of your personal information

Your personal information is held within the protected servers hosting ArabBrains. As part of joining the ArabBrains network you agree to allow for your personal information to be shared with our corporate partners or sponsor or any third party interested in the commercialisation of your idea. The purpose of this is wholly for your own benefit. Firstly, some of the world’s leading international companies may have an interest in your own personal expertise and may wish to offer you contract work or employment. You do not have to accept any such offer but it is only fair that you should be made aware of interest in your skills and knowledge. Secondly, for you and for ArabBrains to succeed it is essential that we allow our corporate partners the right to license or purchase your ideas such that commercialisation can take place. Legally Required Disclosures: Due to the existing legal, regulatory and security environment, ArabBrains may be required, under certain circumstances, to disclose personally identifiable information about our members. ArabBrains will use its best reasonable efforts to limit such disclosure to the following: where ArabBrains believes in good faith that it is required to do so in response to a subpoena, warrant or other legal process; or where reasonably necessary to identify, contact or bring legal action against persons or entities to preserve and/or enforce ArabBrains’ rights. Further, we can, and you authorize us to, disclose your user identification, name, street address, city, state, post code, country, phone number, e-mail, and company to third party agents of ArabBrains as we, in our sole discretion, believe necessary or appropriate in connection with an investigation of fraud, intellectual property infringement, piracy or other unlawful activity or activity that may expose us to legal liability.

In addition to legally required disclosures as explained above, we may disclose your personal information to our employees, employees of other companies related to or affiliated with ArabBrains and to third party service providers who use your personal information to provide services to us in respect of your being a member of ArabBrains. All recipients of your personal information shall be bound by applicable data protection laws to keep your personal information private at no less a level than that by which we are bound.

5. Third party advertising

Advertisements that appear on ArabBrains are sometimes delivered (or “served”) directly to users by third-party advertisers. They automatically receive your IP address when this happens. These third-party advertisers may also download cookies to your computer or use other technologies such as JavaScript and “web beacons” to measure the effectiveness of their adverts and to personalise advertising content. Doing this allows the advertising network to recognise your computer each time they send you an advertisement in order to measure the effectiveness of their adverts and to personalise advertising content. ArabBrains does not have access to or control of the cookies that may be placed by the third-party advertisers. Third-party advertisers have no access to your contact information stored on ArabBrains unless you choose to share it with them. This privacy policy covers the use of cookies by ArabBrains and does not cover the use of cookies or other tracking technologies by any of its advertisers.

6. Your rights in relation to your information

We aim to keep our information about you as accurate as possible. You can write to us at any time to review, change, obtain a copy of your information or have your details altered or corrected in accordance with your rights under the Data Protection Act 2002. 7. Consent to privacy policy

By joining the ArabBrains network, you agree to the terms of this privacy policy. We may occasionally update this Privacy Policy and encourage you to periodically review it. If we change our privacy policy we will post the changes on this page. Your continued use of the ArabBrains network and services constitutes your agreement to this Privacy Policy and any updates. Our Terms & Conditions take precedence over any conflicting provision of this Privacy Policy.
