Mobily (Etihad Etisalat) announced that it had selected Ericsson for the ninth consecutive year to manage its networks during Hajj, ensuring more than 5 million subscribers, including millions of this year’s Hajj pilgrims, experience the best possible mobile service.

As the sole supplier for the Mobily Hajj Network, which includes 2G and 3G radio access, and MINI-LINK microwave transmission, Ericsson once again ensured that Mobily’s network continued to perform at its highest standards this year, even with the massive increase in network traffic during the Hajj period.

Nasser Al Nasser, Mobily Chief Operations Officer, said: “We worked around the clock to ensure that the Hajj pilgrims had access to the finest telecommunication services as they performed their rituals. Through our strategic collaboration with Ericsson, we updated and increased the capacity of our networks to serve more than five million people in a very limited area.

Hajj 1434 witnessed the biggest mobile broadband demand ever. We employed all of our capabilities to ensure a smooth pilgrim experience and fulfillment of our customers’ demands,” he added.

Commenting on this success, Ali Eid, President of Ericsson, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia said: “Mobily has managed to exceed its customers’ expectations by providing seamless connectivity during this year’s Hajj season. This partnership will further foster our relationship with Mobily and we are honored to be able to support Mobily in meeting their subscribers’ demands in the Hajj season and across the Kingdom.”

Throughout the five-day time frame, networks are expected to perform at optimum speed and efficiency levels. Both Ericsson and Mobily teams were able to ensure that users were satisfied and did not experience any interruptions during this spiritual time,” Ali added.

Ericsson has been the sole-supplier of mobile services during Hajj for Mobily since 2005.
